Volvo tests extended-range hybridization with the XC70

Volvo is set to expand its lineup with the XC70, a mid-size hybrid SUV with extended range.

The Volvo XC70 offers an electric range of up to 200 kilometers, making it the most capable plug-in hybrid model from Volvo Cars to date. Built on the Geely SMA platform dedicated to premium plug-in hybrids, the XC70 is part of a strategy to meet the growing demand for vehicles with extended autonomy. This model will initially be available in China by the end of the year, with potential sales in other markets thereafter.

The XC70 combines extended electric range with fast charging capabilities, enabling most daily trips to be made without polluting emissions. It also features an internal combustion engine dedicated solely to battery recharging, ensuring greater flexibility and freedom during long-distance travel. Its spacious interior and optimized comfort make it suitable for various needs, whether urban commutes or longer adventures.

Scandinavian Design, Chinese Heart

The design of the XC70 reflects a contemporary approach to Scandinavian style, with fluid lines and a dynamic silhouette accentuated by a sloped roof and sculpted shoulders. The closed grille, inspired by the brand’s electric models, is equipped with active shutters that optimize aerodynamics and energy efficiency.

The LED Matrix headlights, featuring a distinctive design, intelligently adapt to road conditions to improve safety and visibility. At the rear, “C” shaped lights are seamlessly integrated into the tailgate, offering a modern and sleek aesthetic.

The XC70 continues the legacy of its iconic predecessor, formerly based on the V70 station wagon. This new model adopts a more spacious and versatile SUV format, and is more fashionable than the XC60, while remaining true to the adventurous spirit that characterized the original.
