Porsche Aims to Revolutionize Charging with the New Cayenne

After simplifying smartphone usage, induction charging is set to transform electric mobility.
Porsche will present this technology on the upcoming Cayenne Electric, expected at the end of 2025, and promises a home charging experience simpler than ever.
The Porsche Wireless Charging solution relies on a 50 kg monoblock plate installed on the ground. Unlike traditional wall-mounted charging stations, it requires no additional accessories; simply parking the vehicle above the plate automatically initiates the process. With a power output of 11 kW and efficiency reaching 90%, the performance is comparable to AC charging via cable.

According to Porsche, approximately 75% of the charging for its electric models occurs at home, justifying the emphasis on simplicity. The plate, weather-resistant, can be installed in a garage, under a shelter, or outdoors and has CE and UL certification. It is also equipped with motion and foreign object detectors, ensuring safety in the presence of humans or metallic objects.
Contactless Charging
For the vehicle, the Cayenne Electric will be the first production model to offer the contactless charging option. A receiver placed in the undercarriage communicates with the plate, and the car slightly lowers itself to optimize alignment. The system uses ultra-wideband technology to ensure precise positioning.
Induction charging will be integrated into the My Porsche app, allowing users to monitor the charging status, recognize multiple vehicles, and schedule sessions with pre-conditioning. The plate, weighing approximately 50 kg, is connected and can receive software updates remotely.
