Les trottinettes ne sont plus disponibles dans la capitale

Five months after the Parisians’ vote, operators have removed all the free-floating scooters from the capital.

On April 2nd, 90% of voters in the capital voted against the presence of free-floating scooters in the streets of the City of Light. Operators had until today to remove them, but how did they organize themselves and what will become of the scooters?

A withdrawal since early August

The three entities, Dott, Tier, and Lime, had different perceptions of the removal of electric scooters. Dott started removing its scooters well before the other two operators in the city. Indeed, as early as August 21st, it was impossible to find a Dott scooter on the streets of the capital. Lime removed its vehicles throughout August. Finally, Tier took theirs away starting at the end of August. Different choices, but all leading to the same conclusion: the end of free-floating scooters.

What will happen to them?

Some 15,000 vehicles have disappeared from the capital, but they will not be thrown away. Erwann Le Page, the public affairs director at Tier, explained to our colleagues at the Échos, “We equip 80 cities in Île-de-France, and nearly one-third of the fleet’s vehicles in Paris will be redistributed there.” The company’s scooters will not travel far. Dott will distribute its scooters in other cities where it is active, such as Tel Aviv, or even to neighboring Belgium. Lime chose the same approach as Dott, dispersing the scooters to cities where the Californian company is present. Before being relocated to other cities, they will be checked and cleaned.

The disappearance of free-floating scooters will allow for an even greater space dedicated to bicycles.
