Lime Adds a Seat to Its Electric Scooters

So, the innovation is to allow users to travel seated rather than standing. There are arguments for and against this solution, because standing position offers a good view of traffic and dangers. But it also makes you more visible. Conversely, it will be useful for slightly older people, those with reduced mobility, or with sometimes failing sense of balance.

Under the seat is now a small open space to slide in a few belongings, freeing the user’s limbs from restrictions. However, its rear position makes it difficult to see if someone with ill intent could steal those belongings.

According to a pilot test in Chicago and Nashville, USA, Lime observed a 33% increase in rentals by women, evidence that the seated position argument is valid. It’s true that in North America, the situation differs from Europe. With this seat, Lime aims to encourage motorists to switch to scooters for short trips to reduce CO2 emissions… and increase its revenue. That’s the game.

This new model will initially be launched in about a dozen major U.S. cities, then spread to other countries, probably including France.
