Paris Metro Passengers Trapped for 2.5 Hours

This is an increasingly common event in Parisians’ lives, but it has rarely lasted this long. Nearly 3,000 travelers on line 4 were stranded in the metro on June 15, 2023.

The President of the Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP), Jean Castex, opened an investigation after this incident.

Adding Weather Conditions

It was 30 degrees outside, perhaps even hotter inside the carriages, when 5 trains on line 4 of the metro were interrupted. The incident occurred around 7:25 p.m., during rush hour, when Parisians are finishing work. Evacuation began around 9:10 p.m.

International Events Are Coming

For several years, the state of public transportation has deteriorated. Whether it’s wait times on metro, bus, or RER platforms, or strikes. Yet Paris used to boast one of the best underground networks a few years ago.

Last January, a study conducted by the Woolit app showed that public transport users now wait two minutes longer for their mean of transportation. Paris is the city where employees spend the most time commuting on public transport in France.

However, improvements are needed, because in just four months, the Rugby World Cup will arrive in France, with the semi-finals, the third-place match, and the final to be held at the Stade de France, with 80,000 spectators.

Most notably, the Paris Olympics are raising questions, as many events will be held in the capital.
