Unu: The Cheaper Electric Scooter with Battery Rental

To lower the price of its electric scooter, Unu launches a battery rental offer. Two options are available.

Unu can be considered a significant player in the electric scooter market. Based in Berlin, the company markets a model equivalent to a 50 cc with a refreshing look. As is often the case with this type of vehicle, the price can deter many, despite purchase incentives. Therefore, to attract those who hesitate for financial reasons, Unu is launching an offer with battery rental.

This idea is not new, as Renault experimented with it for the Zoe for a time. It allows for significant savings at purchase but requires monthly payments for battery rental.

An More Affordable Unu Scooter

Indeed, the price of Unu scooters drops considerably with this new offer. The starting price goes from €3,299 to €2,399 for the 3 kW model. For the more powerful 4 kW, still considered equivalent to a 50 cc, the price drops from €3,899 to €2,999.

Regarding the interchangeable battery rental, the company offers an initial 36-month subscription, at €39 per month for one battery or €69 per month for two batteries. A second “Flex” subscription allows for contract cancellation at any time, but the monthly fee increases to €60 for one battery and €105 for two batteries.

A Good Deal?

Is this plan really interesting? Frankly, it’s not obvious. A few simple calculations can clarify things. Over the 36-month term, the subscription will cost you €1,404 for one battery. With two batteries, the total cost is €2,484.

In any case, the total of rent payments plus the purchase price of the scooter will be higher than a standard purchase. For the 3 kW, it exceeds by €504 with one battery and €794 with two.

The Flex subscription without commitment may be worthwhile if you plan to get rid of the scooter quickly. In any case, we recommend you thoroughly review the terms of the offer!
