Mercedes eArocs 400: the tough electric truck put to the test in the cold
Tested down to -20 °C in Finland, Mercedes’ new electric construction truck is preparing for series production.
The Mercedes eArocs 400 has completed a series of intensive winter tests in Finland, near the Arctic Circle. As we know, electric vehicles do not like the cold. Designed for transportation in the construction sector, this 100% electric model has been subjected to temperatures dropping to -20 °C to assess its behavior in extreme climate conditions.
The tests focused on traction and stability on snowy and icy roads, cold starting capabilities, as well as the operation of the batteries and charging performance at low temperatures. Engineers also analyzed the efficiency of the electric powertrain and energy recovery performance in winter conditions.

According to Michael Kimmich, head of development for the eArocs 400, the results observed in terms of road behavior, range, and charging correspond to the expected parameters. The collected data should allow for the refinement of technical settings before the launch of series production.

Presented for the first time at the bauma fair in Munich in 2025, the eArocs 400 will be marketed starting in April. The base vehicle will be assembled at the Wörth-am-Rhein factory by Mercedes-Benz Trucks starting in the third quarter of 2026, before the final integration of the electric powertrain by the Paul Group in Vilshofen-an-der-Donau.

Available in 37 and 44-ton versions in an 8×4 configuration, it can be offered as a concrete mixer or a tipping truck. It features two LFP batteries totaling 414 kWh, an 800-volt electric system, and a charging capacity of up to 400 kW via CCS2 plug. The announced range reaches up to 240 kilometers depending on the configuration.
