Mercedes Makes a Cameo in Ghostbusters

The Mercedes Sprinter comes to the rescue of the famous ghost hunters in the latest installment of the franchise.

In “Ghostbusters: Ice Age,” which has been in theaters since April 17, a Mercedes Sprinter is entrusted with the heavy task of transporting proton packs, ghost traps, and other muon purifiers. And thanks to its heated seats and advanced assistance systems, the Sprinter registered as “ECTO-Z” reassures the “Ghostbusters” on their icy roads hunt and helps them save the world from a second ice age.

Mercedes Ensures the Transition

Transformed by Vehicle Effects, the former stuntman Dennis McCarthy’s company, the ECTO-Z features a special sliding rack that transports all its equipment and provides huge storage space. The Sprinter ECTO-Z is the only Ghostbuster vehicle officially designed for this film, alongside the famous ECTO-1 station wagon from the original 1984 movie.

The ECTO-1, a 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Futura, almost never got its moment of glory on the big screen. Dan Aykroyd initially planned to use another Cadillac model from 1975 for the ghost hunters, but the first sketches of the Miller-Meteor impressed the entire filming crew, who unanimously approved it. The 1982 Cadillac Deville from the 2016 reboot infuriated fans so much that the original model was recalled for this new episode!
