Mercedes outsells Tesla by delivering 1,000 eActros trucks to a customer

Mercedes is already in the concrete phase of delivering its electric tractor eActros 600 when a customer has just ordered 1,000 units.

The decarbonization of freight in Europe is progressing faster than expected. Mentalities are evolving, ecological and societal awareness are growing, and concrete initiatives are following through.

Thus, the Swiss construction materials producer Holcim (formerly Lafarge) has decided to replace part of its fleet of trucks by placing a single order for 1,000 units of the new semi-electric tractor Mercedes, the eActros 600.

We have already talked a lot about this battery truck at Mobiwisy because it stands as the first competitor to the Tesla Semi. With an autonomy of 500 km between charges, it can also travel over 1000 km per day, thus meeting the driving needs of a professional driver. It is possible to recharge from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes with an ultra-powerful charging station.

A order worth several hundred million euros

Holcim, on their side, has expressed the desire to decarbonize 30% of their logistics fleet by 2030, which represents a huge financial investment, with each truck costing more than 300,000 euros excluding tax. The 1,000 units thus imply a bill of several hundred million euros.

Mercedes takes a very strong symbolic lead over its rival Tesla and fully benefits from its expertise in transport trucks that date back more than a century. Technical complexity, industrial tools, distribution and after-sales network, and especially a client network, give Mercedes arguments to stand on against the American manufacturer. Tesla is experiencing a more difficult gestation than expected for its Semi, which is already three years late from its initial launch schedule.

Nevertheless, Tesla has begun building a new factory in Nevada to produce thousands of its Semis by 2025-2026.
