DHL: Electric Ford Delivery Vans Starting in 2023

Electric mobility is of increasing interest to companies, notably the German Deutsche Post DHL Group, which has just ordered electric vans from Ford.

Ford aims, like many manufacturers, for zero emissions in all vehicle sales and carbon neutrality in its European footprint of facilities, logistics, and sourcing by 2035.

The American Group has decided to accelerate this strategy by supplying DHL with over 2,000 electric delivery vans by the end of 2023.

“Ford Pro and Deutsche Post DHL Group share the vision of greater sustainability and a commitment to electrified solutions, and this agreement is a major step toward millions of deliveries made by electrified vehicles worldwide“, said Hans Schep, General Manager of Ford Pro Europe. “E-Transit is the best-selling electric commercial vehicle in North America and since June, it has also been the segment’s bestseller in Europe, which means that the 2-ton all-electric van is already making significant progress to support this ambition.“

Both companies are also stepping up co-development of future services, with new digital solutions and charging options. Ford Professionals will also provide DHL with access to test vehicles and monitoring services.

Significant investments

German company DHL also plans to invest 7 billion euros in the coming years to achieve zero emissions in their transport operations. They already aim to have a fleet that is 60% electric by 2030.

“The electrification of last-mile logistics is a major pillar in decarbonizing our operations“, added Anna Spinelli, DHL group purchasing director and mobility manager. “The addition of the new Ford E-Transit to our global fleet of around 27,000 electric vans further enhances our ability to provide eco-friendly delivery services worldwide. Combining our efforts to meet our specific logistical needs will strengthen operational and service efficiency.”
