45 000 spectateurs sont venus à vélo

This weekend, the Dutch Grand Prix was held at Zandvoort. The country did not deviate from its status as the country of cycling.

Max Verstappen won his ninth consecutive Grand Prix this season, on home soil, an impressive feat. However, another figure might be even more striking, and that is the percentage of spectators who arrived by sustainable transportation, mainly by bike.

97% of spectators arrived at the circuit using sustainable transportation

97% of spectators used sustainable transportation to access the circuit this weekend. How is this possible? Around the Zandvoort circuit, many bus and train stops are nearby. An easy way for spectators to get there, especially since the circuit is located close to the sea. Only one other number is causing a lot of talk, related to spectators who rode their bikes to the circuit.

45,000 spectators per day arrived by bike

The organizers of the Grand Prix announced that on average, 45,000 spectators arrived by bike each day. A figure that is heartening, but is it really surprising? The answer is very simple: no. The Netherlands is known as a country where “cycling reigns,” so naturally, they ride their bikes to the circuit.

Next August 25th, Formula 1 will make a stop at Zandvoort, possibly reaching 100% of spectators arriving by sustainable transportation.
