OK Vroomer, or how an insult becomes a source of pride!

It didn’t take long for OK Boomer to become OK Vroomer, but should we be ashamed of getting older and loving cars?

For some narrow-minded individuals, a Vroomer is a male over 60 who gets his daily fix of Diesel or unleaded 98, unable to find regular gasoline. The symbol of a bygone era when turning the ignition key opened a world of selfish freedoms, but where climate change and pollution in general were just new age delusions.

Today, we must carpool, prioritize public transportation, spend part of our vacation budget on parking… OK Vroomer! Certainly, at Mobiwisy we openly love cars, but we also take joy in e-scooters, eVTOLs, electric bikes,… We believe that individual transport is not dead and that a second chance is even being offered thanks to electricity and hydrogen.

A recent study by Ipsos published during the Mondial de l’Auto indicates that for 64% of the French, “the car remains a source of pleasure.” Cars are becoming less expensive, especially due to the development of LOA and LLD, while being increasingly environmentally friendly. Attention, let’s not confuse Zero emissions with Zero pollution, but all this points in the right direction. Likewise, 8 out of 10 French people agree with the idea that “we’re heading for a climate disaster if we don’t change our habits quickly”, a number that is rising. 78% believe that “it is possible to reconcile driving pleasure with respect for the environment” and 73% consider that “the environmental impact of cars is constantly improving”.

So if being a Vroomer means loving cars while being aware that a change in mindset about their use is necessary. If being a Vroomer means finding a Porsche, a Lamborghini, a Ferrari, or a Bugatti still incredibly beautiful with a hybrid engine. If being a Vroomer means enjoying taking the wheel while understanding that the car isn’t the solution to all mobility issues. Then yes, we are Vroomers and we are proud of it.
