Mark Webber Porsche 911 GTS Goodwood

This is one of the most important road Porsches in history, and as such, it needed a prestigious driver at Goodwood.

In a well-rehearsed ceremony blending unveiling and high-speed runs, the new Porsche 911 GTS received all the honors today at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It was driven for the occasion by former Australian Formula 1 driver Mark Webber. With 9 victories and 42 podiums, the Aussie seen on Porsche at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 2014 to 2016 delighted the spectators.

This is proof that electrification does not spell the end of the 911 legend, but instead opens up a bright future for it.

The heart of the beast remains a fantastic 3.6-liter Flat 6 engine producing 485 hp, which receives a two-part T-Hybrid system. Initially, there is an integrated electric motor located between the compressor and the turbine wheel that immediately creates an ideal boost pressure. This electric motor also functions as a generator, producing up to 11 kW (15 hp) of electrical power extracted from the exhaust gas flow. A permanently excited synchronous motor is integrated into the new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK). It can provide a torque of 150 Nm and a power of 55 hp (40 kW). Porsche has connected these two electric motors to a lightweight and compact high-voltage battery. Similar in size to a standard 12V battery, it can store up to 1.9 kWh at 400 V. In the end, more power, and especially more responsiveness, with a contained weight increase of 50 kg to preserve the soul of the 911. With a total of 541 hp, 610 Nm of torque, a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.0 seconds, and a top speed of 312 km/h, the deal is fulfilled.
