Chery Tiggo: Chinese Hybrids Take on Peugeot and Renault

Comment
Chery Tiggo France

The Chinese giant Chery officially launches its Tiggo brand in France. With a range of hybrid and plug-in hybrid SUVs.

Already present in France with Omoda and Jaecoo, the Chery group is stepping up its game. From September 1, 2026, the leading Chinese car exporter will officially market its historic Tiggo brand in the French market. This offensive confirms the immense European ambitions of the manufacturer.

Founded in 1997, Chery claims to have more than 4.5 million customers worldwide today. However, until now, the manufacturer had remained relatively discreet in Europe, preferring to launch Omoda and Jaecoo to carve out a place for itself. With Tiggo, the group now believes that its notoriety and network are strong enough to establish its own name.

The initial launch will include the Tiggo 7 Hybrid, Tiggo 7 Plug-in Hybrid, and Tiggo 8 Plug-in Hybrid, while the Tiggo 4 Hybrid will arrive a bit later. All models rely on the in-house developed CSH (Chery Super Hybrid) technology, promising to combine low consumption with comfortable range, without the constraints often associated with 100% electric vehicles.

The Hybrid Path

This is actually one of the most interesting aspects of this arrival. While most Chinese manufacturers highlight their electric models, Chery chooses to prioritize hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. This strategy reflects a pragmatic reading of the French market, where many drivers remain attached to the versatility of these technologies.

To support its launch, Chery announces a network of more than 50 dealerships and repairers from the opening of orders, with a goal of 90 points of sale before the end of the year. Future customers will also benefit from a 7-year or 150,000 km warranty, complemented by 8 years or 160,000 km on the high-voltage battery.

Facing competitors like the Peugeot 3008, Renault Austral, Dacia Bigster, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage, Chery does not intend to solely rely on aggressive pricing. The manufacturer also aims to attract customers with generous features and its own hybrid technology. More than just the launch of new SUVs, the arrival of Tiggo in France symbolizes a new step in the conquest of the European market by Chinese manufacturers. Having proven their industrial know-how, they are now looking to impose their historic brands. And this time, European generalists might have a top-tier competitor.
