The Mercedes Classe C Electric Passes Its Environmental License

The new electric Mercedes Classe C is not only focused on increasing its range: it also aims to become a benchmark in terms of sustainability.

At Mercedes-Benz, it’s no longer just about measuring horsepower under the hood. Now, grams of CO₂ and kilograms of recycled materials matter almost as much as performance. The upcoming electric Mercedes Classe C offers a new demonstration of this by essentially obtaining its “environmental license.”

The new electric sedan claims to reduce its carbon footprint by nearly two-thirds over its entire life cycle compared to the current thermal Classe C. This environmental assessment is validated by independent auditors, proving that Mercedes’ sustainability strategy is not just a marketing argument.

Recycle and be recycled

To achieve this goal, Mercedes has scrutinized each component. The aluminum primarily comes from supply chains powered by renewable energy, the steel is produced through processes that emit less CO₂, and recycled plastics are found everywhere: wheel arches, bumpers, front trunk, and upholstery. In total, nearly 50 kg of recycled thermoplastics are integrated into this electric Mercedes, without compromising on perceived quality.

However, this environmental license is not only obtained at the factory. On the road, the electric Mercedes Classe C claims up to 760 km of WLTP range, a consumption ranging from 14.1 to 18.5 kWh/100 km, an 800-volt architecture, and fast charging capable of recovering up to 325 km in just ten minutes. This makes long journeys almost as simple as with a thermal model.

Even the production is exemplary. Manufactured in the Hungarian factory in Kecskemét, largely powered by solar energy, the electric Classe C also benefits from a supply chain designed to reduce carbon emissions.
