Mercedes Classe E

Following the launch of the sedan and station wagon, the All-Terrain is the third model in the Mercedes E-Class family.

While its origins are much older, the first Mercedes E-Class officially debuted in 1993, with the facelift of the Type W124 sedan. Three decades later, the German road car has managed to maintain its aura in the traditional sedan segment, even though traditional customers have shifted to SUVs. With this new model designed for off-road purposes, Mercedes could reconcile two worlds.

All-Terrain, so all-wheel drive

Since 2017, the E-Class station wagon has also been offered in an All-Terrain version in France. Equipped with the standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and a higher ground clearance, up to 46 mm more than the standard station wagon, even when fully loaded. The AIRMATIC air suspension and off-road driving program are also standard. So, it’s not just about adding a few accessories to a city station wagon but a vehicle designed to face the elements. Other practical details confirm this off-road driving capability. Notably, there is an off-road display and the “transparent hood,” part of the 360-degree camera system, which allows the central screen to show a virtual view of the road beneath the vehicle. This helps the driver to see obstacles such as large rocks or potholes more clearly and earlier.

This Mercedes adopts a true off-road look. The all-terrain design includes special bumpers and chrome-finished impact protection features at the front and rear. The grille and matte dark gray wheel arch trims also emphasize the vehicle’s off-road character.

Engines and prices very Mercedes

Under the hood, the Mercedes E-Class All-Terrain offers only two hybrid diesel engine options. The 2-liter four-cylinder engine in the 220 d delivers 197 horsepower, supplemented by 23 horsepower from the 48V mild hybrid technology. In the 300 d, the electric power increases to 129 horsepower, with an all-electric WLTP range announced at 102 km.

Prices start at 77,850 euros for the 220 d 4MATIC version and 88,450 euros for the 300 d 4MATIC. The Mercedes E-Class All-Terrain will be available at French dealerships in the first quarter of 2024.
