Opel Astra GSe: the modest sporting ambitions
This page is translated from the original post "Opel Astra GSe : de timides ambitions sportives" in French.

Opel has just unveiled a 225 hp version of the Astra. Presented as a sporty model, it is the first to use the GSe badge.
Eventually, the new Astra GSe will be joined by other models of the same pedigree. They will be electric or hybrid, but never 100% thermal. Opel has already planned to abandon combustion engines by 2028 in Europe.
Available in Sport Tourer wagon and five-door variants, the new Astra GSe does not make any technical surprises. It indeed features the same 225 hp plug-in hybrid system already used on several models within the Stellantis lineup. A powertrain offering comfortable horsepower but unlikely to transform the Astra into a sporty vehicle. Moreover, the Peugeot 308 equipped with the same engine has never been marketed as a sports car.
According to the WLTP certification cycle, the Astra GSe should consume between 1.1 and 1.2 liters of fuel per 100 km, and limit CO2 emissions to 25/26 grams per km. These highly theoretical figures will of course never be reached in real conditions, but they help avoid penalties.

A Slightly More Aggressive Visual Look for the Opel Astra
The Astra GSe is expected to be more dynamic on the road than other versions, thanks to a series of modifications made to the suspension and steering. Opel also recalibrated the ESP to make it more permissive.
Lower by 10 mm, the Astra GSe sits on 18-inch alloy wheels. It features a front bumper with a more dynamic treatment but remains overall discreet. Inside, the seats are upholstered with Alcantara fabric.
Opel has not yet announced the price of this new Astra GSe. The price should be quite similar to the 308 Hybrid 225 GT, sold for a little over €44,000.
