What is BMW’s Neue Klasse?
This page is translated from the original post "Qu’est-ce que la Neue Klasse de BMW ?" in French.

Presented at the Munich Motor Show 2023, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse previews the next generation of the brand’s electric vehicles.
The BMW Vision Neue Klasse concept features a clean stylistic language, with expansive surfaces and a few distinctive lines, reduced to essentials. This approach highlights traditional design elements such as the BMW “double-haricot” grille and the Hofmeister Kink on the rear pillar, thus preserving BMW’s DNA. Inside, the new generation of BMW iDrive ensures a unique digital experience that merges the real and virtual worlds. Increased use of secondary materials, environmentally friendly production methods respecting resources, and fully electric powertrain equipped with BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology all contribute to lowering the carbon footprint of the Neue Klasse throughout its lifecycle.

Marked wheel arches, a recessed rear window, and a pointed “shark nose” front in an inclined forward position are characteristic BMW features. The 21-inch aerodynamic wheels pay homage to classic cross-spoke designs inspired by motorsport. Simultaneously, the vehicle’s nearly monolithic body, with pronounced front and rear cutouts and large glass surfaces, establishes a new aesthetic.
With a higher percentage of secondary materials and significantly reduced variety of materials, targeted improvements have been made to enhance circularity. An improved disassembly concept will also help optimize the recycling of Neue Klasse models.

Analog controls have been minimized in the BMW Vision Neue Klasse. Interaction occurs via BMW Panoramic Vision, the central display, and multifunction buttons on the steering wheel. The user experience is enhanced by voice commands of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Thus, the next generation of BMW iDrive offers a modern interpretation of the brand’s characteristic driver-focused approach. In the upcoming BMW iDrive, the driver and front passenger can interact with information displayed on the BMW Panoramic Vision, creating a shared user experience. The driver can move displayed content from the central screen to the BMW Panoramic Vision with a simple gesture.
Built in the new Debrecen factory without any fossil fuels and using much more secondary materials, the Neue Klasse will also significantly promote environmentally friendly personal mobility respecting resources. High energy efficiency during the vehicle’s operational phase will be ensured through weight optimization, air and rolling resistance reduction, and smart thermal management, especially for the electric powertrain, thanks to BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology.

In addition to high-yield electric motors, major advances in BMW’s new eDrive technology include the new cylindrical battery cells, which have over 20% higher energy density than the previously used prismatic cells. The sixth-generation eDrive technology will optimize recharge speeds of Neue Klasse models by up to 30%, as well as increase their range by 30%.
All these topics are now brought together in the Vision Neue Klasse, offering a glimpse into BMW’s future: electric, circular, and digital while ensuring the typical driving pleasure of a BMW for upcoming generations.
