At €24,995, the Volkswagen ID. Polo electric significantly narrows the gap with its thermal sister, priced from €22,200. It’s a good reason to reconsider the switch to electric charging.

Is electric too expensive? At Volkswagen, the comparison between the two Polos now warrants a calculator pause. With a starting price of €24,995 for the ID. Polo, compared to €22,200 for the petrol Polo, the gap is precisely €2,795. A significant amount, but one that makes the debate much more concrete. These amounts correspond to the listed entry-level prices, before subsidies and potential discounts.

However, be careful to compare like for like: these are two entry-level models, not perfectly equivalent configurations. And the electric price pertains to the Trend trim with a 37 kWh battery. Therefore, one should not automatically attribute the 453 km of range claimed for certain versions of the range to it.

A small difference that deserves a real calculation

The ID. Polo also has a very practical argument: its trunk of 441 liters. Volkswagen claims more loading space than in the thermal Polo. For shopping, strollers, or weekend getaways, this is a benefit that is easier to appreciate than a long list of technologies.

It remains to examine its daily use. How many kilometers do we drive? Can we charge at home? At what cost? An economical home charging option can help amortize the initial premium. Conversely, a driver who travels little or relies on expensive public charging points will need to scrutinize their expenses with greater attention.

One should also compare the complete quotes: equipment, financing, insurance, and potential installation of a charging station. The catalog price gives a first indication, not the final cost.

With just €2,795 between the two entry points, Volkswagen nevertheless poses a pertinent question: before ordering a petrol Polo, why not also try the electric version?
