The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Breaks the Nürburgring Record
An electrifying prototype of the Xiaomi SU7 has just taken the Nürburgring record for a four-door car.
The achievement is all the more remarkable as it was Xiaomi’s first attempt at the notorious Nordschleife. Proudly, Xiaomi EV, the company’s electric vehicle division, describes this historic moment written with the steering wheel as a “miracle and a new beginning”.
The SU7 Ultra prototype uses the technical base of the electric sedan Xiaomi SU7 launched this year for around €30,000. Just the base, because this monster is powered by three in-house electric motors delivering a combined output of 1,548 horsepower. This allows the SU7 Ultra to obliterate the 0 to 100 km/h in 1.97 seconds and reach a top speed exceeding 350 km/h.
The road to this record has not been smooth, as Xiaomi initially reserved the track for two days earlier this month but faced poor weather conditions. After several delays, the team finally received a one-hour window yesterday, Monday, October 28th. David Pittard, winner of the 2023 24 Hours of Nürburgring, expertly piloted his SU7 Ultra over the 20.88 km of the challenging German circuit to etch his name and that of the manufacturer into history with a time of 6’46″8.
To better grasp the significance of this achievement, the Rimac Nevera has a benchmark time of 7’05″2, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT at 7’07″5, and the Tesla Model S Plaid at 7’25″2. However, these three models are road-legal, which is not the case for the SU7 Ultra. So when can we expect a civilian version of the beast?
