Why Is the Electric Renault 5 More Expensive Than Expected?
Two well-equipped versions of the Renault 5 electric will be available at order opening, Techno and Iconic Five.
Saying that the new Renault 5 is awaited would be an understatement! This model, which the diamond brand aims to make the electric transition desirable, features sculpted sides that represent the future of an entire group.
Five versions of the Renault 5 E-Tech electric will be offered by 2025: Five, Evolution, Techno, Iconic Five, and the special Roland-Garros series. To ensure a successful launch, the French manufacturer has decided to initially open orders for the Techno and Iconic Five versions, equipped with the 52 kWh comfort-range battery that offers up to 410 km of range in WLTP cycle. It will be until 2025 that other versions will appear in dealerships. Therefore, it will be another year before you can purchase a R5 with the small 40 kWh battery, offering a 300 km range. Contrary to expectations, the entry model at 25,000 euros is not coming immediately.
Renault Plays Big
The Techno and Iconic Five versions are equipped with the new 150 hp electric motor, developed by Ampere at the Cléon plant in Seine Maritime. It allows the small French car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 8 seconds. Not a lightning-fast car, but that was expected. For that, you’ll need to look towards the Alpine cousins from Dieppe with the A290.
Customers will be able to choose their body color among yellow, green, night blue, pearl white, and starry black. Customization decals on the roof and front doors in red and black or gold and silver, along with stickers, allow creating a model to their taste from 200 combinations, not counting the 104 accessories available à la carte.
The Renault 5 comes standard with a bidirectional 11 kW AC charger that can charge a third-party device using the car’s battery. With a peak of 100 kW in DC fast charging, thirty minutes are enough to recharge the R5 from 15% to 80% at a fast charging station.
The 2024 lineup starts at 29,490 euros for the Techno version, after the ecological bonus of 4,000 euros is deducted. An additional 2,000 euros will be required for the Iconic 5 version.
We previously mentioned the R5 R Pass, and today it makes perfect sense. Its holders are prioritized for placing orders and have until May 30th inclusive to configure and order their Renault 5 E-Tech electric. They will thus be among the first customers to be delivered. Public orders will open on May 31st.
