MG Cyberster: The Return of the British Roadster Goes Electric
This page is translated from the original post "MG Cyberster : le retour du roadster britannique se fait en électrique" in French.

Rest assured, MG TF roadster enthusiasts, Morris Garages made in China will relaunch a pleasure model in its lineup. The Cyberster displays a design that matches its supposed performance.
It was in 2005. I had the chance to try a sublime MG TF 160 VVC. Its red body, beige Alcantara interior, and intoxicating mechanics left a lasting impression on me at the time. Anecdotally, I was the last journalist to drive a MG off the press yard before the brand’s bankruptcy. These models were heavily discounted by 40%. The temptation was strong to buy one, but my modest salary and uncertainty about after-sales service defeated my passion.
We are in 2023, and MG is now a well-established brand in the French market. Since its surprise comeback in 2019 under the Chinese giant SAIC, the manufacturer has specialized in electrified models. Recognizing that the Morris Garages badge still continues to inspire dreams, SAIC has authorized the development of a pleasure car. And what better than a roadster to win hearts?
After several “scoop” images, the new MG roadster, named Cyberster, finally reveals itself. While the brand’s current models are quite conventional, it’s clear that the designers have enjoyed themselves here, with distinctive and bold lines. Special mention to the rear design, which displays real character.

Big Roadster, Big Engine
Its dimensions are quite substantial, measuring 4.53 meters in length and 1.91 meters wide. Despite its 3.91-meter length, the Mazda MX-5 looks diminutive in comparison! The total weight is also notable, at 1,850 kg empty, almost double that of its Japanese competitor. But unlike the latter, the MG Cyberster is purely electric.
Two powertrains will be offered, although it’s still unknown whether the French market will accept both. One is a 310 hp unit driving the rear wheels, and a more provocative version with 536 hp featuring two motors and all-wheel drive. This version is expected to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds. Unfortunately, no details have emerged yet about the battery capacity or the supposed range.
Facing it, the MG Cyberster will have a formidable rival, as Porsche is converting its future Boxster into an electric. Stay tuned for the duel!
