Social Leasing, many disappointed because few elected

The success of the Social Leasing scheme finally launched this year was anticipated, but certainly not on such a scale.
The platform set up to collect applications for the allocation of a discounted electric car within the framework of “social leasing” has reached capacity. “Today, 80,000 people have registered on the platform to request to be contacted, and we have done so,” declared Monday the Minister of Transition Energy Agnès Pannier-Runacher on FranceInfo. She also reminded that only 25,000 vehicles would be available in year 1. “We had indeed reserved 25,000 vehicles, and I can tell you that I have contacted the manufacturers,” she stated. Renault and brands of the Stellantis Group—Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, and Opel—have already confirmed they are ready to supply more vehicles.
Campaign promise of Emmanuel Macron, this scheme aimed at the most modest households is intended to give them access to electric mobility. It involves concretely a leasing with purchase option (LOA) for less than 100 euros per month for small urban cars and 150 euros per month for family vehicles. The state will fund an initial contribution of 13,000 euros. To make a first cutoff, priority will be given initially to people able to justify professional activity requiring regular use of a car for at least 8,000 kilometers per year or a daily commute of at least 15 km to the workplace without direct public transport alternatives. The taxable income per part must not exceed 15,400 euros to qualify for this scheme.
At this stage, pre-registration on the platform My Electric Leasing does not yet constitute a firm order.
