Leapmotor: the new electric Dacia?
Stellantis may have pulled off the same masterstroke as Renault with Dacia by betting on Leapmotor, the low-cost Chinese brand that is booming in Europe.
When Renault bought Dacia in the early 2000s, it integrated an abandoned affordable brand that became a profitable and popular gem. Today, Leapmotor seems to be following exactly the same trajectory within Stellantis. Thanks to the joint venture where the group holds 51% of the international entity, the “Chinese comet” is democratizing electric vehicles with an ultra-aggressive pricing strategy and the benefit of the well-established Stellantis brand network.
In March 2026, Leapmotor reached a major milestone with over 11,000 registrations in Europe, a 31% increase compared to February and +754% year-on-year. The brand captured a 3.2% market share in the electric passenger vehicle segment, with impressive peaks: 33.5% in Italy, 5.4% in Poland, 2.3% in Spain, and 1.8% in Germany. Starting from scratch certainly makes it easier to perform, but the results are nonetheless excellent.
Already an electrified reference in Europe
In the nine main European markets (G9), it has climbed to the 2nd place in electric sales to individuals (7.6% market share), gaining 20 positions in one year.
The heroes of this ascent? The T03, the best-selling A-segment electric city car in Europe (56.4% market share in its segment and listed in the top 10 across all segments), and the B10, which is already in 4th place among electric C-SUVs for individuals.
Throughout the first quarter of 2026, Leapmotor totaled 24,751 registrations (+39% vs Q4 2025 and +706% vs Q1 2025), entering the Top 3 of BEV sales to individual customers.
Currently 100% electric, orders are set to accelerate further with the arrival in May of the B10 e-Hybrid with range extender, ideal for both individuals and businesses.
Like Dacia in the past, Leapmotor relies on simplicity, unbeatable value for money, and the support of a large group. Its explosive growth shows that the strategy is paying off. Stellantis may just have found its new low-cost gem of the electric era.
