Can Ferrari do better than Xiaomi?

This totally crazy and insolent question is no longer relevant since Xiaomi introduced its incredible SU7 Ultra.
The founder of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, declared that the SU7 Ultra was his “dream car,” and it’s easy to see why. It is a machine designed for those seeking ultimate performance at such a low price that one might wonder if it’s not akin to giving anyone a real race car! Dangerous? Yes, without a doubt.
The SU7 Ultra became known by setting a new record at Nürburgring. At the time, it was a prototype and we never thought we would see a civilian version. Well, only a few weeks later, it arrived! The production version features a more conservative aerodynamic package than the “Nürburg” version but remains just as comprehensive, with a ground effect system and a beautiful rear wing in carbon fiber. But the exterior is just an accessory, because the most insane part is under the body with a triple “V8s” engine setup delivering a staggering 1,548 horsepower. This means 1.97 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h and over 350 km/h in unlocked top speed.
However, that doesn’t mean it’s a furious beast, since Xiaomi promises that the Ultra offers a complete driving experience, combining performance with cutting-edge technology and luxurious comfort. And we believe them!
The SU7 Ultra is based on Xiaomi’s first electric vehicle model, the SU7 sedan, launched earlier this year in China at around 28,000 euros and breaking all sales records. The SU7 Ultra will be at the top of the range, and although the official price has not been announced, Lei Jun indicated that the SU7 Ultra will only be “slightly more expensive” than the standard SU7 models. It is expected to cost slightly over 100,000 euros in China, with 4,000 units to be produced in 2025.
Of course, the Ultra is not as affordable as the other versions, but for similar performance, what could compete with its price? Why spend millions on a Rimac Nevera that is only slightly more performance-oriented and doesn’t allow bringing children along for the weekend?
Ferrari is working on its first electric car, and it will be a masterpiece, that’s certain. A marvel of design and technology, at a Ferrari price that’s totally out of this world. But what if its performance is only slightly better than Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra? How much longer can the Italian manufacturer sell cars at four times their production cost? We don’t have the answer, but we’re asking the question.
