Alpine A290 vs Abarth 600e: The Duel That Packs a Punch!
This page is translated from the original post "Alpine A290 vs Abarth 600e : le duel qui fait mal !" in French.

A fierce battle has begun in the small electric hot hatch segment between the popular Alpine A290 and the surprising Abarth 600e.
We didn’t see it coming, and then… And then discounts and other price stabilizations between the Alpine A290 and the Abarth 600e emerged. To such an extent that an obvious question came to mind: should you choose the French or the Italian?
This table, which summarizes the most important information, already provides a first comparative element to inspire reflection.

What conclusions can be drawn?
The first is that Alpine charges a high premium for the qualities of its very attractive little car. But it’s also clear that the primary target of the A290 is not the Abarth 600e, which is larger, but the Mini Cooper S Electric. So, it’s not necessary to be purely rational in choosing the Alpine, as its limited range, slow charging, and tight rear seats (as well as trunk space) make it more suitable for those without family constraints.

It’s a pity that you need to spend nearly 40,000 euros, after bonuses, to get the highest finish and power level. Otherwise, for a few thousand euros less, with less equipment, there’s the 180-horsepower version, which is already very appealing.
But style, while nice, isn’t everything. For those seeking more sensations and dynamic efficiency, the Abarth 600e is more interesting. With its mechanical front differential, it offers grip and turn precision unprecedented for an electric hot hatch. Its 20-inch wheels make quick direction changes sharp, without sacrificing too much comfort.

Conversely, its very limited range—around 250 km real-world—and charging speed, also capped at 100 kW, are drawbacks. Its versatility isn’t great, especially considering its interior space far exceeds that of the Alpine A290. Long trips with multiple passengers shouldn’t have been a problem for the Abarth, but unfortunately, it is.
Ultimately, with a significantly lower price (thanks to the €6,000 mandatory discount, bonus included) until December 31, 2025, the Fiat Abarth 600e seems more complete than the A290 in the 220-horsepower version.
