Electric Trucks: Sales Soar in Europe, MAN Speeds Up Production
Long confined to a few experiments, the electric truck is beginning to scale up in Europe. Sales are rising sharply, and MAN has just surpassed the milestone of producing 1,300 electric trucks in series in Munich.
The electric truck is seriously starting to find its place on European roads. One year after launching the series production of its battery-powered trucks, MAN announces it has assembled around 1,300 electric eTGX and eTGS trucks at its Munich factory.
A symbolic milestone that accompanies the growth of the market. In the first half of 2026, registrations of rechargeable trucks increased by 47.7% in the European Union. Their market share now stands at 4.8%, compared to 3.6% one year ago. France is contributing to this growth, with a 43.7% increase.
Diesel still has a bright future
However, diesel remains the dominant fuel, accounting for 92.1% of European registrations. But manufacturers are already preparing for the transition. At MAN, electric and diesel trucks are assembled on the same production line. The Munich factory can thus produce around 100 trucks per day, across all types of engines.
The other revolution concerns autonomy. The electric truck is no longer reserved for urban deliveries. With seven battery packs offering a gross capacity of 623 kWh, MAN announces up to 830 km of autonomy without intermediate recharging, depending on the configuration. This allows for the possibility of certain long-distance missions.
The German manufacturer will also expand its offering with the MAN eTGL and eTGM, produced in Krakow. Its electric range will thus cover categories from 12 to 50 tons.
Obstacles remain, particularly regarding price, the deployment of charging stations for trucks, and the capabilities of the electrical grid. But with rising sales, increasing autonomy, and massive industrialization, the electric truck is clearly changing dimensions in Europe.
