The hydrogen revolution takes the track at Le Mans: cars, trucks, and buses on the Bugatti

Bus, truck and racing prototypes: the Bugatti circuit will host an astonishing full-scale demonstration of various hydrogen mobility on September 9.

Hydrogen is still struggling to find its place on the roads, but Le Mans continues to invest in this technology. On September 9, 2026, the Bugatti circuit will host LMH2, the symposium dedicated to hydrogen and the decarbonization of mobilities, organized by Le Mans Métropole in collaboration with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest.

This time, it won’t just be about conferences. Between 12:40 PM and 1:30 PM, several vehicles will take to the track to showcase the different possible applications of hydrogen. The lineup promises to be particularly eclectic: a Daimler bus equipped with a Toyota fuel cell, already used daily in Le Mans, a Hyundai truck designed for heavy transport, and the prototype created by the students of the Hydro Team of Louvain. The electric kart from Team Fernande, a 100% female team that is the French champion of the Greenpower Challenge, will also be present.

Sport as a Showcase

Motor sports will obviously take center stage. The H24EVO from MissionH24 will be showcased. This third prototype from the Franco-Swiss program abandons gaseous hydrogen in favor of liquid hydrogen and is now clearly aimed at performance. Its fuel cell must deliver up to 300 kW, while its electric motor can reach 650 kW, or about 884 hp.

Another attraction is the Toyota TR LH2 Racing Prototype. Last June, it became the first prototype using liquid hydrogen to perform a demonstration on the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit, with Kazuki Nakajima at the wheel.

These demonstrations take on special significance as the ACO and the FIA prepare for the arrival of hydrogen vehicles in the WEC and the 24 Hours of Le Mans starting in 2030. At Bugatti, on September 9, the future of endurance will therefore not only be showcased: it will start to roll.
