Boreal, the global hybrid weapon of Renault

Renault Boreal

The Renault Boreal becomes a cornerstone of the manufacturer’s international strategy, while inaugurating a new generation of full hybrid E-Tech powertrains.

Renault is expanding its horizons with the Boreal. Already launched in Latin America from its factory in Curitiba, Brazil, the C-segment SUV is set to conquer new territories with the opening of a second production site in Bursa, Turkey. More than just an industrial extension, this establishment confirms the strategic role of this model in the brand’s global offensive.

Because the Boreal is not intended for Western Europe. Developed within the framework of Renault’s “International Game Plan,” it targets over 70 countries where the demand for family SUVs continues to grow significantly. From Brazil, it serves 17 markets in Latin America. From Turkey, it will supply 54 countries across Eastern Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Global Ambitions for Renault

The stakes are significant for Renault. These regions currently represent one of the main growth drivers for the C-SUV segment, dominated by models like the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, or Toyota Corolla Cross. With the Boreal, the French brand aims to offer a more appealing alternative to the Duster while remaining more accessible than the Austral or Rafale marketed in Europe.

To attract this clientele in search of a higher-end experience, the Boreal focuses on a particularly refined presentation. Measuring 4.56 meters in length, it showcases a robust and modern silhouette, 19-inch wheels, a panoramic roof, and a lighting signature inspired by the Niagara concept. Inside, the SUV features the openR link multimedia system with integrated Google, a dual 10-inch digital display, a Harman Kardon audio system, and up to 25 driver assistance features.

Under the hood, Renault takes advantage of this launch to accelerate its electrification outside of Europe. Produced in Bursa, the Boreal becomes the brand’s first model to receive the new 160 hp full hybrid E-Tech powertrain. Capable of operating up to 80% of the time in electric mode in the city, it claims a fuel consumption of 4.8 l/100 km and emissions limited to 108 g/km of CO₂. This offer complements the 1.3 turbo TCe EDC petrol engine with 145 hp.
