We Traveled Across France in a GPL Dacia Duster
To judge the cheapest Dacia Duster in the catalog, what better than a road trip through the city, highway, and the hinterlands of Var?
From our offices in Boulogne-Billancourt to the Paul Ricard Circuit, the new 2025 Dacia Duster Eco-G 100 accompanied us on a road trip combining highway and the winding roads of Var. Offered from 19,990 euros, 24,450 € in the Extreme trim tested, this SUV is the most accessible version in the range but lacks neither character nor surprises. No bonus, no penalty, pure simplicity… or common sense!

From the very first kilometers, the small 999 cm³ three-cylinder turbo engine won us over. Running on petrol, it delivers 90 hp and 160 Nm; switched to LPG, it gains 10 hp and 10 Nm, offering unexpected breath for an engine of this size. The transition between petrol and LPG is smooth and seamless. Even on the narrow winding roads, the Duster never feels underpowered. You can engage sixth gear from 80 km/h on the fast lane, and the acceleration remains reassuring without needing to downshift two gears. In the end, you always have power at your disposal, whether driving on the highway or in the Var hinterland.

Inside, the improvement in finish and comfort is obvious compared to the previous generation. And what to say compared to the very first Duster… The seats are perfectly shaped, the driving position is comfortable, and the rear space has been significantly increased. The trunk reaches 517 liters despite the 50-liter LPG tank placed under the floor. The onboard computer allows you to monitor gasoline and LPG levels simultaneously, and a discreet “LPG” button offers manual control if necessary. Refueling with gas? Once you understand how the specific pump works, no problem at all.
What’s left for the Premium models?
On the winding roads, the Duster inspires confidence. The slightly firm suspension perfectly absorbs irregularities while offering good support in corners. The steering, light and precise in the city, lacks a bit of substance on the highway, but the overall comfort remains very satisfactory. Only the aerodynamic whistling above 110 km/h reminds us we are not behind the wheel of a premium SUV.

We covered 1,600 km with 75% on LPG and 25% on petrol. The average consumption: 10 l/100 km on LPG and 7 l/100 km on petrol. With the price of LPG nearly half that of petrol, the savings are immediate and without compromise on driving pleasure. Even though the LPG network remains limited in rural areas, it is very dense on highways, and the combined range of the two tanks exceeds 1,200 km – enough to cross France without any stress. To be honest, we even deliberately switched to petrol mode several times to make this comparison. We could easily have done the entire trip solely on LPG.
