Tesla Semi: Deliveries Will Finally Begin

It is the Pepsi company that will have the honor of receiving the first units of the Tesla Semi.

Revealed several years ago, Tesla’s Semi finally seems ready. The first units are to be delivered on December 1st to Pepsi. It was Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, who announced it on Twitter.

The Semi was unveiled in 2017. Shortly after, Pepsi ordered 100 units of the electric truck. The company waited about 5 years before its order was fulfilled.

According to Tesla’s previous statements, the Semi will have a range of 500 miles on a full charge, which is approximately 800 km. A second version with a 300-mile range (480 km) is also expected to be marketed. It will probably arrive a little later.

The American manufacturer also indicated that it would be possible to recover over 70% of the range in 30 minutes. This will require using the new “megachargers”.

A Tesla Semi “super fun” to drive

Produced in the United States, in Nevada, the Semi will be sold starting at $150,000, which is roughly €153,000 according to the current exchange rate. The high-range version should start around $180,000 (€183,000).

Like other manufacturers entering the battery truck market, Tesla emphasizes the low operating costs of an electric-powered vehicle. According to the company’s calculations, $200,000 could be saved over 3 years compared to a thermal truck.

The notion of driving enjoyment is also highlighted by Elon Musk, who reminded that the Semi would be “super fun to drive”. The truck, which will likely be powered by 4 electric motors, can reach 100 km/h in about twenty seconds.
