Mobilize Solo Concept

It’s not a car, nor is it a three-wheeled scooter. The new Solo concept from Renault group doesn’t belong to any predefined category, and perhaps that’s what makes it so interesting.

The Mobilize Solo is limited to 25 km/h, like an electric assist bicycle. It has no steering wheel but a sort of joystick, which will appeal to video game enthusiasts. Direction changes are driven by the small rear wheel. The front wheels, meanwhile, are connected to the electric motor.

The semi-enclosed bodywork somewhat resembles what BMW did in the 90s with the C1. It is completely open on the left side, allowing access aboard. Despite its reduced dimensions (1.37 m long and 0.90 m wide), the Solo has a small rear trunk. To access it, the seat must be tilted forward.

Protected by this rudimentary cabin, the “driver” does not need to wear a helmet. Additionally, he cannot fasten a seatbelt, since the Solo does not have one. The vehicle does, however, feature an airbag and an emergency button at the foot for quick immobilization in case of trouble.

A skate under an umbrella that has evolved well

“Solo Concept illustrates (…) Mobilize’s desire to think outside automotive norms”, explains Renault group. It embodies ultra-light, smooth, and agile mobility. The project was initiated by Renault’s Indian studio, known for its great inventiveness. The initial idea of the designers was to create a skate with an umbrella for shelter.”

The Solo is equipped with a removable battery, allowing easy charging at home or use of a battery exchange station. It can also be plugged directly into the electrical grid and potentially transmit electrical energy to other Solo units behind it. The process, which operates via induction, allows multiple vehicles to be charged simultaneously.

While the arrival of the Duo on the market has been confirmed by Renault, the situation is less clear for the Solo, which is currently just a simple concept.
