Active, the city of Issy-les-Moulineaux launches goods delivery with Pragma’s hydrogen triporteur bikes.

You are probably familiar with electric assist bikes, which are often discussed on Mobiwisy. But do you know about hydrogen bikes? This is the vision of a company, Pragma Industries, and the city of Issy-les-Moulineaux.

A greener solution than trucks

The Hauts-de-Seine city welcomes four new hydrogen triporteur bikes. Several shops and companies will share them across the Issy territory, depending on their delivery schedules:

  • Auchan
  • Biocoop
  • DPD France (La Poste group)
  • L’Atelier Mathilde
  • Nina Métayer
  • Terre et Fourchette
  • Trait-Tendance

“The advantage is that it is extremely maneuverable and agile, you don’t waste time parking, there are no traffic jams,” declares Samuel Gangnant, General Director of DPD France, to Issy TV, while emphasizing the “ability to recharge very quickly,” for “great flexibility for our drivers.”

“Densely populated cities are tired of trucks parking, creating pollution and traffic jams,” adds Aurélie Journet, Founder of Grand Paris Durable, “so deploying triporteurs for last-mile delivery offers real environmental advantages.”

Hydrogen bikes, and soon cargo bikes and scooters!

Pragma Mobility has developed a fuel cell that produces electricity onboard the bike for the electric motor using stored hydrogen in a tank, instead of a traditional lithium-ion battery. After adapting the technology to classic bikes, the company has also applied it to the triporteur available in Issy-les-Moulineaux.

“Today, the fuel cell has a lifespan of 15 years, and 95% can be recycled,” assures Clément Janson, project manager at Pragma Mobility, “We are working to enable 100% recycling of our systems, whereas lithium-ion batteries last 4 to 5 years and have recycling issues, as does their production.”

“We have other vehicles being developed based on the same technology,” shares Clément Janson, “such as the cargo bike or hydrogen scooter, which will also be released in 2024.”
