Decathlon LD 920E Connect: Information and Price of the Future Electric Bike
This page is translated from the original post "Decathlon LD 920E Connect : infos et prix du futur vélo électrique" in French.

The upcoming Decathlon LD 920E Connect e-bike 2023 reveals some motor specifications, a touchscreen interface, and especially an idea of the price.
It was during the Decathlon Innovation event at the end of October that we discovered this new electric bike. Among the various sports and products covered by the group, the LD 920E Connect made a splash, and was even named one of the best products of the 2022 lineup. However, it provided very few details about this model. Until today, when the French brand reveals some of its features.
Multiple sizes and an automatic gearbox
The Decathlon LD 920E Connect, like the current generation launched last spring, will have two frames: semi-open and closed. Each will come in three sizes: S/M/L for the lower frame and M/L/XL for the upper. More responsive, the installed torque will be 65 Nm, compared to 50 Nm, but it’s mainly the transmission that will make a difference.

Instead of a traditional hub gear, the central propulsion hosts an automatic gearbox. This is the creation of a Belgian startup, E2 Drives, which provides a continuously variable transmission, depending on pedaling, via two electric units. This system is assembled in France, at Decathlon’s AML factory in Lille. All of this should keep the weight nearly identical to the current version, around 26 kg.
An XXL battery
Another major update is the battery. Previously located in the rear luggage rack, it now moves into the frame, improving the weight distribution of the e-bike. The new Decathlon LD 920E Connect houses a 705 Wh pack, whereas the current version has only 417 Wh. The range will be significantly higher, at 150 kilometers according to the brand, in mode 1, compared to 90 km.
Additional info: the outdated screen on the current bike will be replaced by a centrally integrated display on the handlebar, also touchscreen. The interface and features are still unknown, but it will be connected to an app.
This interface will allow for geolocation via GPS tracker, with Decathlon promising to retrieve the bike in case of theft. Lastly, the lighting will be integrated again into the bike. However, the front headlight will be positioned higher, on the handlebar, making it more visible, and will be more powerful (30 lux announced).
What is the price of the Decathlon LD 920E Connect?
With all these features, especially the enormous battery, it’s clear that the price will be high. Forget the current model’s €1,899, whose specifications are no longer comparable at all.
Current model | 2023 model | |
Motor | 50 Nm | 65 Nm |
Chain transmission | Shimano Nexus 3-speed hub | E2 Drives automatic gearbox |
Weight | 26 kg | 26 kg |
Brakes | Disc front/rear Tektro | NC |
Suspension | Suntour front fork | NC |
Battery | 417 Wh/36 V (11.6 Ah) | 705 Wh/48 V (14.7 Ah) |
Range (mode 1) | 90 km | 150 km |
Sizes | 2 sizes – 2 frame types (high/low) | 4 sizes – 2 frame types (high/low) |
The brand indicates a price of about €3,200 for its Decathlon LD 920E Connect. That’s €1,300 more than the current version! But is it really expensive considering what it offers? Not really, because it’s impossible to find a connected e-bike with this pedigree, continuous variation, and a battery over 700 Wh at this price. Of course, a Vanmoof S5 at €2,998 is connected, with an automatic gearbox, but its range is limited, and it has less torque.
We are nonetheless awaiting more details about the bike to evaluate it properly on paper, as Decathlon promises surprises! The bike
