The Skoda Superb and the Volkswagen Passat are now produced in Slovakia at the Bratislava factory.

Four weeks after its world premiere in Prague, Skoda has begun production of the fourth-generation Superb at the Volkswagen Group plant in Bratislava. This strategic relocation of its flagship model from Kvasiny to Bratislava increases the production capacity of the Kvasiny site, which will be used to produce additional units of the Octavia, the Czech manufacturer’s best-seller.

The decision to produce the fourth-generation Superb at the Volkswagen Group plant in Bratislava was announced in November 2020. This move is part of the Beta+ project aimed at leveraging synergies within the production network and further improving efficiency. Skoda Auto was responsible for the entire development of the Skoda Superb and the Volkswagen Passat, both of which will be produced on the same line.

The Bratislava production line has been fully modernized: until now, the assembly line had never been used for producing plug-in hybrid models. The reconstruction of the space allowed the installation of automation equipment and handling technologies, industrial camera systems, and other updates across the entire assembly line. Additionally, the chassis production area was expanded to accommodate the batteries of electric vehicles.

The paint shop at the Bratislava factory also underwent significant changes to improve environmental impact. For example, the introduction of new painting booths equipped with advanced air circulation systems and volatile organic compound capture capabilities marks a new step towards more environmentally friendly manufacturing.

Production of the fourth-generation Superb begins with the station wagon version and will be complemented by the sedan version in early 2024. The engine range includes a new 150hp micro-hybrid petrol engine and two diesel engines of 150 and 193hp (4×4 version). Additionally, the lineup features a new plug-in hybrid version available on the Superb station wagon with a fully electric range of over 100 km.

The heritage of the Skoda Superb dates back to 1934 with the introduction of the luxurious Skoda 640 Superb. In 2001, Skoda revived this historic nameplate for the first modern generation of the Superb. To date, more than 1.6 million Skoda Superbs have been produced.
