Tramways de Lille

A $124 million contract has been signed by Alstom for the supply of 30 trams to operate on the Lille – Roubaix – Tourcoing line.

The tramway continues to gain momentum in France, but also around the world. Its electrification and dedicated tracks reasonably protect it from traffic jams, something electric buses cannot enjoy.

And Alstom has identified a lucrative business since 2000 when this activity was launched, when the group’s survival was at stake. Today, a global leader in the field, the French manufacturer supplies its Citadis tram to the four corners of the planet. To date, 3,200 trams are in service in 70 cities across 20 countries, including 26 French cities. Alstom even shares an interesting statistic: 10 billion passengers have traveled on a Citadis tram since its launch 23 years ago. And one billion kilometers have been traveled, equivalent to 23,800 times around the Earth!

Manufactured in France at several sites (La Rochelle, Villeurbanne, and Aix-en-Provence), the Citadis was chosen by the Lille Metropolitan Area to renew the vehicles on two lines: R and T. Thus, 24 units will be delivered starting in 2026, and 6 more may be added. A total of 30 units.

For the Comfort of Passengers

Measuring 32.40 meters long and 2.40 meters wide, Citadis trams feature four double doors per side and offer a minimum capacity of 196 passengers. They are, of course, compliant with accessibility standards for people with reduced mobility (PRM), as well as for strollers.

The start of service is scheduled for mid-2026.
