Not easy to renew a star model. For this, the third generation of the Qashqai, a pioneer of crossovers, adopts a more radical look.

Just over three years after its launch, the third generation of the Qashqai has sold more than 350,000 units in Europe and continues to be the benchmark in crossovers. To maintain this status in its segment, the Qashqai benefits from a complete facelift, as well as significant technological updates.

Of course, the new generation still features the e-POWER powertrain. With an internal combustion engine generating electricity used for propulsion, it offers a hybrid solution now well mastered by NISSAN.

A More Electric Qashqai

Direct wheel drive by the electric motor means high torque as well as a smooth and instant response. This powertrain provides an electric driving sensation without the need to think about recharging — a stepping stone for customers not yet ready to switch to 100% electric. The only role of the 3-cylinder turbo engine is to generate electricity, which is sent via the inverter either to the 140 kW (190 hp) electric motor or to the 1.8 kWh battery (or both, depending on driving conditions). The engine runs quietly in the background to supply the necessary charge to the battery and motor. It has been programmed to produce electricity based on the vehicle’s speed, avoiding any disconcerting disconnection between background noise and vehicle progress.
