The Tesla Cybervault charging station is a monumental flop

Marketing has its limits. Unveiled in China in March 2023 amidst the “Cybertruck Mania,” the idea of a charging station with evocative design, named Cybervault (Cyber for Cybertruck, Vault for Safe in English), was excellent on paper. When a concept is good, you must push it to the limit…

However, Tesla, in a rush, somewhat rushed its product by endowing it with highly misleading properties that are not in line with the asking price: 5500 yuan (about 700 euros). Judge for yourself: the charging power is limited to 7.4 kW (3 kW without reinforced socket), while the same time, the Tesla Wall Connector (the most famous) reaches up to 22 kW for a slightly higher price.

The price of design?

Can we talk about deception regarding the Tesla Cybervault charging station? In reality, it is more a stylized electric armor than a highly efficient charging solution. Its opening is indeed secured by a combination code, similar to that on suitcases. Its main benefit is to protect the charging cable and prevent other EV drivers from using it.

This commercial failure is already reflected in an 11% price drop, now costing 4900 yuan (620 euros) in China. Finally, Tesla seems to have abandoned the idea of expanding its sales to other markets such as Europe and the United States. At least in its current form.
