Air conditioning is spreading in public transport
This page is translated from the original post "La climatisation s’étend dans les transports en commun" in French.

Heat wave, heatwave… With climate change, episodes of high temperatures are set to multiply in Île-de-France.
On the streets, it’s often hard to endure, but how does it feel in public transport when the mercury rises? Well, most residents will tell you it’s unpleasant, but the tide is turning towards a cooler experience.
Year after year, Île-de-France Mobilités continues its investments to renew transportation. New or refurbished trains, buses, trams, and metros are designed to better respect the environment and enhance passenger comfort, particularly through the widespread implementation of air conditioning. Incompatible, you might say? Not necessarily. Climatic comfort can be ensured through the general adoption of low-impact air conditioning systems.
Climatic comfort in trains
Île-de-France Mobilités continues to invest heavily in acquiring new trains equipped with air conditioning systems. For the year 2022, this corresponds to the deployment of 685 new or refurbished trains, all equipped with refrigerated ventilation. Today, 73% of Île-de-France trains are equipped with air conditioning systems, a ratio that is expected to reach 90% by 2025.
By 2035, all metro trains will have been replaced by Île-de-France Mobilités and will be air-conditioned. Until then, the renewal of equipment continues, with 36% of metros equipped with air conditioning systems. These are the trains operating on lines 1, 2, 5, 9, and part of line 14.
Starting in 2024, the first sets of the brand new MF19 metro will gradually arrive on lines 3, 3bis, 7, 7bis, 8, 10, 12, and 13. This will involve a gradual replacement of old models with this innovative train, a true “metro of the future” that is bright, comfortable, and naturally… air-conditioned!
All air-conditioned trams, cooler buses and coaches
All tram lines are air-conditioned. Except for line 1, but a complete renewal of its trains is scheduled for 2024.
Today, 40% of the Île-de-France bus and coach fleet benefits from air conditioning, representing a fleet of 4,200 vehicles out of 10,500. A percentage set to evolve with the massive renewal of equipment initiated by Île-de-France Mobilités.
