Rejected, the Peugeot E-3008 electric is not celebrated

Peugeot E-3008

While Peugeot can rightfully take pride in having already registered 50,000 orders for its new 3008, there is an E-hic.

Peugeot has opted for an energy mix for its 3008 Coupe SUV. The Peugeot 3008, and not just the E-3008 as mentioned in the latest statement from the manufacturer, is indeed available in three engine versions: the electric 210 hp, the Hybrid 136 e-DCS6, and the Plug-in Hybrid 195 e-DCS7. It’s a cautious choice, but a message that is still hard to convey to the public, who see a single model coexisting at dealerships and on the road as both a mild hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, and an electric vehicle. One might rightly wonder if the E-3008 100% electric version is not just a retrofitted thermal version… Replacing an internal combustion engine with an electric powertrain is not impossible, but it’s not the optimal technological approach. There’s still the need to fit in the batteries, modify the transmission, the control unit, etc. On the other hand, Renault has chosen a 100% electric Scenic, which delivers a very clear message. It’s a model designed to be electric, benefiting from a development focused solely on this technology and optimized for it! If you want a bit or a lot of thermal power, you have the Rafale, the Symbioz, the Captur, or the Austral. At Mobiwisy, we like to poke a bit of fun at the plethora of models at the diamond brand, but we have to acknowledge that everyone finds a suitable vehicle there.

1 in 4, the report that hurts Peugeot

With an electric mix of 25%, higher than the average in the segment, the 3008 is performing quite well, but if we want to see the glass as half empty, we can note that 3 out of 4 customers prefer it with a good old dose of gasoline. We hope for the lion brand that the upcoming expansion of the lineup will further boost this 100% electric share. Indeed, we are expecting in the coming months a sporty version with 320 horsepower Dual Motor and all-wheel drive, and especially the 230 horsepower Long Range offering a record range of 680 km. If that’s the case, Peugeot may finally stop getting its wires crossed in its statements between the 3008 and E-3008… Unless it’s preparing for the eventual discontinuation of hybrid versions, but frankly, the sales figures rule out this hypothesis.
