Alpine ends the suspense… and its F1 engine supplier activity!
This page is translated from the original post "Alpine met fin au suspense… et à son activité de motoriste F1 !" in French.

The historic Renault factory, now Alpine, in Viry-Châtillon is pausing its F1 activities and becoming Hypertech Alpine, a cutting-edge engineering center.
Our colleagues at AUTOhebdo, always well-informed, had announced Alpine’s decision earlier in the day. The halt of the F1 engine activity at the Viry-Châtillon site has been definitively decided for the end of the 2025 season. This decision does not in any way put an end to the Alpine F1 program, as it is already known that the French team is in search of a new engine. However, this decision will free up part of the funding allocated to Formula 1 and allow the talents in Viry to deploy all their skills on research that is directly beneficial to Renault and Alpine customers. What the motorsport world loses today, the users of new mobility will gain back.
Hypertech Alpine will therefore allocate some of its financial and human resources to the development of very high-performance vehicles and research on cutting-edge technologies for Alpine, but also for the entire Renault Group ecosystem. This decision should allow for the teams in Viry-Châtillon to remain on standby and secure the Group’s intellectual property. Nevertheless, a brain drain from the motorsport enthusiasts is unfortunately foreseeable.
Alpine has communicated the new roadmap for its Hypertech:
- Battery of tomorrow: Short and medium-term development of batteries for the brand’s sports vehicles and research and development on “solid” batteries.
- New electric motor technologies: Research in collaboration with Ampere, to prepare for the expected technological breakthroughs in the next generations of electric vehicles.
- Alpine Supercar: the Viry-Châtillon center will contribute to the development of the future 100% electric Alpine Supercar.
The F1 activities in Viry, aside from the development of a new engine, are therefore maintained until the end of the 2025 season, but the project to transform the site into a center of excellence in engineering and high technology will begin by the end of 2024.
