Elon Musk has confirmed that Grok, the artificial intelligence-based chatbot from his company xAI, will soon be integrated into Tesla vehicles.

If you’re not very familiar with the Guardians of the Galaxy universe, please excuse this simple analogy between Tesla’s AI and the green hero from the Marvel Comics franchise. Known for its witty and provocative responses, Grok has seen its capabilities rapidly improve since its launch in 2023. This model, similar in principle to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, has access to real-time information, making it particularly suitable for dynamic interactions.

Specific details about the improvements Grok will bring to driving experiences remain unclear. Currently, Tesla’s voice commands, while useful, lack depth and interactivity. With Grok, these interactions could evolve: beyond adjusting the climate control, users might discuss route options or ask general questions.

The integration of Grok could also help improve safety and user experience by assisting in real-time decision-making or providing diagnostics based on vehicle data.

Musk did not specify the launch date for Grok in Tesla vehicles but stated that this feature would be available to all models soon. This integration could coincide with the launch of Grok 3, the new version that will finally include voice support essential for in-car use. Although no exact date has been announced, a release by the end of the month seems likely.

Grok will operate on Tesla or xAI servers, not on systems directly embedded within the vehicles. This setup requires an internet connection to access all features, which might necessitate a Premium subscription. Tesla recently altered this plan, adding a weather radar but removing free streaming services, so details on the costs associated with Grok remain to be clarified.
