The Pinot Solex, a local self-service electric bike offer, inaugurates a new era of soft mobility in Bar-sur-Aube.

Invented in 1946, the Solex, a famous motor-assisted moped, has marked the history of urban mobility in France. Symbol of simplicity and elegance, it has captivated generations before reinventing itself in an electric version to meet contemporary challenges. Today, this icon enters a new phase with the launch of the “Pinot Solex” in Bar-sur-Aube.

On Thursday, January 7th, the town of Aube officially inaugurated its free electric bike scheme in the presence of numerous local officials and actors. This service provides 20 Solex electric bikes, assembled at the Saint-Lô factory by the Rebirth Group. Two MOBICITYLS stations, located at Place du Jard and Place Carnot, allow residents and tourists to rent these bikes to facilitate their travel, whether for commuting or leisure rides through the wine region.

Access to the service is straightforward: users can rent a bike using their bank card or smartphone, with a deposit of €200. The rate is €0.05 per minute for the first hour, and adapted packages, ranging from €3 to €14, are available.

Bike and station maintenance is handled by the local store MJ Scoots and Cycles, a partnership that reflects Mobicity’s commitment to supporting the local economy. This project proves that soft mobility can also transform rural areas. No need for enormous stations and dense networks—just smart, well-sized offers tailored to the region. Plus, riding a Solex is definitely more enjoyable than Vélib’!
