Will the Navigo pass increase to 120 euros per month?

After already increasing at the beginning of the year, the Navigo pass could increase again next year up to 120 euros per month.

A few days ago, several media outlets mentioned a potential increase in the price of the Navigo pass next year, possibly reaching 120 euros. Why such a rise, and what could be the consequences for your wallet and for Île-de-France Mobilités?

Why might the Navigo pass increase?

Revealed by our colleagues at Les Echos, the government has commissioned a mission which states “annual tariff revaluation of 1% beyond inflation, which would generate roughly 25 million in 2024, up to 220 million by 2030”. There are several reasons for this potential increase. The first concerns the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

What are the potential consequences?

If the increase is confirmed, there will be one main consequence. It concerns your wallet. The increase, which could reach 120 euros, will make you spend 35.90 euros more per month to travel in Île-de-France. As a reminder, in 2023, the price of the Navigo pass increased from 75.30 euros to 84.10 euros, a rise of 8.90 euros. Also, remember that your employer is required to reimburse 50% of your Navigo subscription, whether annual or monthly.

The second consequence relates to the number of Navigo pass subscribers. As of February 1, 2023, 974,523 people held either an annual or monthly Navigo pass. A decrease in this number can be anticipated. In comparison, a fine for traveling without a ticket is 50 euros, and with a ticket it is 35 euros.
