Trenitalia strengthens its train service between Paris and Lyon

The Italian company Trenitalia continues its push in France against SNCF by launching 3 new round trips Paris-Lyon.

End of the monopoly for the SNCF, which now faces competition from Trenitalia. Since the start of its campaign in December 2021, the Italian operator had limited its offer to 2 daily round trips on the Paris-Lyon-Turin-Milan route.

Now, it can count on a new round trip between Paris Gare de Lyon and Lyon Perrache, via Lyon Part-Dieu. And from June 1st, it will offer 2 additional ones, still between Paris and Lyon Perrache.

In total, there will soon be 5 Trenitalia round trips offered between the two cities. The trains will depart from Paris between 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., and from Lyon between 6:20 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Trains starting at €23

Travelers can choose among 4 classes, including one specifically designed for meetings. Ticket prices vary depending on demand. In the best case, a round-trip Paris-Lyon will cost you €23 in Standard class.

The trains used — Frecciarossa manufactured by Hitachi — do not exceed 300 km/h, although they are theoretically capable of reaching 400 km/h. Like SNCF’s TGVs, they connect Lyon and Paris in less than 2 hours.

Already 150,000 travelers transported by Trenitalia

“As we committed, Trenitalia is strengthening its offering between Paris and Lyon to meet the demands and needs of travelers. With these new routes, Trenitalia aims to actively participate in the development of rail travel in France and provide real travel alternatives,” said Roberto Rinaudo, President of Trenitalia France.

Trenitalia claims to have transported over 150,000 people in France since the start of its campaign. The occupancy rate of its trains is about 87% between Lyon and Paris.
