SNCF inaugurates its Bistro that travels at 330 km/h

The future TGV M, now called inOui in France, has unveiled its new Bistro concept that reinvents the historic lounge car.
Who has never complained about the endless wait at the TGV lounge car, with a queue that sometimes spills over into the passenger compartments? While Alstom is about to complete the technical development of its next TGV M, SNCF introduced this March 2025 the future layout of its high-speed trains.
And one of the key points, beyond improving overall comfort, accessibility for people with reduced mobility, and the design of furnishings, was focused on reinventing the lounge car. Now, call it Bistro, without the T. A light orthographic change that echoes the central O in inOui, a charming palindrome.

Time for self-service!
In reality, there are no longer ticket counters or staff to take orders: it’s now a neighborhood convenience store with refrigerators and self-service payment terminals. Fast and convenient. Of course, staff—called baristas—will monitor to prevent theft and ensure everyone pays, but wait times will be much shorter.
Historically, the bar was located on the upper floor of the car. This convenience store will now be on the ground floor, while 28 seats have been added upstairs. Access is via a staircase. The space is much more welcoming than before, and SNCF should see its revenue truly explode!

Very French dishes
The menu offered by the Bistro embraces the idea of “Francitude” with typical dishes from French bistronomy. SNCF assures that 65% of suppliers will be small and medium-sized French companies… with 50% committed to product certification. For example, 100% of the meats will be French.
To add a touch of conviviality, SNCF is considering the idea of a Happy Hour for casual aperitif breaks, like on a terrace after work. With light background music to encourage conversation among travelers. Nice idea.

Some dishes have already been added to the menu in 2024, with others to follow soon as the Bistro is fully rolled out.
And what do you think about this idea of reinventing the TGV lounge car? Not bad, right?
