Pass Navigo Ticket Métro bus

The paper ticket, is it gone in Paris and Île-de-France? Not yet, but it’s gradually moving to mobile apps, similar to the Navigo Pass.

Digitization continues to shape mobility. This year, Île-de-France Mobilités has been working on transferring its tickets and Navigo Pass to an app. What’s the current status and for whom?

The famous paper ticket is gradually disappearing

For the renowned paper ticket, everything started in fall 2021 with the discontinuation of the “t+” ticket booklet at certain sales points. However, this does not concern single tickets, which remain available. IDF Mobilités clarifies that tickets already purchased, whether in booklets or individually, remain valid everywhere on the network.

It’s only in 2023 that single tickets will become less common at points of sale. “They are already no longer offered at several stations,” even adds IDF Mobilités. So how can you buy and use them?

Everything is now done through Navigo Liberté +. The price is €1.49 per trip, compared to €1.90 for the current ticket (limit of 1h30). Transfer to a bus or tram is also free. This also means that 10 trips only cost €14.90, versus €16.90 for the current ticket booklet. Payment is automatic via your registered bank card, and billing occurs monthly via direct debit the following month.

To purchase it, you need a subscription, in order to hold a Navigo Pass, or you can go directly through the app. On the app, you can recharge your tickets and even validate via the NFC function of your smartphone on metro or bus terminals. If you’re not familiar, NFC is a wireless function available for several years. Note that these features are currently only available on Android apps. Apple phones will need to wait before they can use the iOS version of the app.

The virtual Navigo Pass, but not all types!

As often with Île-de-France Mobilités, not everything is so simple. The Navigo Pass can now be used within the app, and users can validate their trips via the NFC function on their phone. However, this depends on the type of subscription, as the Annual Navigo and Imagine R cards are not included in this capability.

Here are the Navigo Passes compatible with the app:

  • Navigo Day
  • Navigo Youth Weekend
  • Navigo Week
  • Navigo Month
