From Street Art to the Foot of the Île-de-France Cable Car

To best integrate the Câble C1 cable car into the urban landscape, Île-de-France Mobilités is launching a large Street Art competition.
From May 9 to June 10, 2025, Île-de-France Mobilités, in collaboration with the Val-de-Marne Department, the concerned cities, and the Paris Fire Brigade, is issuing a call for urban art projects. The goal: to dress the unattractive concrete pedestals of the pylons of the future Câble C1 cable car, for better integration into the urban environment.
The Câble C1, the first urban cable car in the region, will connect Créteil to Villeneuve-Saint-Georges via Valenton and Limeil-Brévannes. With a route of 4.5 kilometers and five stations (Pointe du Lac, Limeil-Brévannes, Valenton, La Végétale, Villa Nova), this new fast and ecological transportation option will complement the Île-de-France network. Accessible and included in the unified fare system, it will feature ground-level stations built with simple materials and green roofs.
Since the planning phase, integrating the project into the landscape has been a priority. The pylons, made of galvanized white steel and featuring sleek designs, blend with their surroundings. However, some concrete bases, installed as anti-collision safety devices, remain imposing. The idea of incorporating urban art was conceived to turn them into true artistic supports, strengthening the local connection of the cable car.
An open call for projects
Urban art, accessible and democratic, plays a key role here. The targeted bases are located in Créteil, Limeil-Brévannes, and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges. All artists—whether independent, collective, or affiliated with an organization—can submit their applications. The application is available on the official Île-de-France Mobilités website.
A jury composed of local and institutional stakeholders will select the projects this summer. The chosen works will serve to enhance the territory while making the infrastructure more attractive.
With this call for projects, the Câble C1 aims not only to improve mobility for Île-de-France residents but also to become a symbol of aesthetic and social innovation.
