Train région Nouvelle Aquitaine

In Jassonneix, Pérols, and Montaignac, some TER trains only stop at stations if a traveler or someone waiting on the platform requests it.

In three small communes in Corrèze, travelers now must signal with a wave of the hand for the train to stop at the station. If they are already onboard and wish to disembark, they must notify the conductor, either upon approaching the station or when boarding the train.

These on-demand stops have been experimented with by the Nouvelle Aquitaine Region since the beginning of the year, in the communes of Jassoneix, Pérols, and Montaignac. An initial assessment of the experiment will be made this fall. If the results are positive, the experiment could be extended to other stations in the region later. According to Renaud Lagrave, vice-president in charge of transport, the elected officials of the affected communities are satisfied with the early results.

On-demand trains to save small stations

Through these on-demand stops, the Nouvelle Aquitaine Region hopes to find a way to save small stations. Faced with the low number of daily travelers they serve, there is a strong temptation to stop servicing them altogether in order to avoid slowing down the train. “Today, many of our fellow citizens want trains to go faster, which means that stops are not necessarily marked at every halt and everywhere,” explains Renaud Lagrave, as quoted by France Bleu. With on-demand stops, passengers onboard will no longer complain about unnecessary stops.
