Milan equips itself with 153 Iveco electric buses

The Italian city of Milan has decided to equip itself with a fleet of over 150 electric buses from the local manufacturer Iveco.
This is a strong signal. Instead of just acquiring a few units, as some cities eager to showcase their greening efforts tend to do, Milan has chosen to go big. The plan is to replace its entire bus fleet—currently 1,200 units—with 100% electric models within the next decade.
The goal is already set to convert 50% of this fleet by 2026. To that end, an initial order of 153 electric buses has been placed with the Italian manufacturer Iveco. This accounts for already 12.75% of the total need, or about 25% of the 2026 target.
Milan has chosen the long 12-meter model equipped with a (relatively small but often recharged) battery of 69.3 kWh.
The contract, worth 120 million euros, also includes maintenance for 10 years and updates to the depots. These facilities will thus be capable of recharging the buses at night in particular.
The first deliveries will begin in the first quarter of 2025 and will extend until June 2026. Currently, Iveco supplies 45% of Milan’s bus fleet, that is 550 buses out of 1,200 in total. The Lombard city is sending a strong message.
